R.A. Melos, b. May 27, 1963 I consider myself a person first, a proud gay, pagan, male second. If I were to list my accomplishments, self acceptance would be at the top of the list. To accept one's self, as they are, without trying to change for the sake of others is very important for the self-esteem of the gay male. Life is much too short to worry about what others think of you, or to live in fear of others. I fully believe in total equality for all people, regardless of sexual orientation. As an openly gay male, I live my life for my benefit, for my pleasure, for my experience. I will not go quietly into a closet to ease the collective conscious of a society not ready to face themselves or others for what and who they are. The new millennium is now, and the time for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community to take their rightful place, out of the closet and along side the rest of the human race, is also now. I urge all GLBT peoples, from all races, from all walks of life, to stop assisting those who would see us closeted, or wiped off the face of the planet, by refusing to accept less than the equal rights and equal respect of those who differ from us. No matter who or what a person believes in, they must believe in themselves first, and I urge all GLBT's to look in the mirror and tell yourself you do matter, and you are important, and it is time others, who refuse to see it the way you do, learn to accept you as you are. It is time the non-GLBT world learns to accept US as we are. No matter what your religious belief, or sexual orientation, I urge you to stand up for yourself, for the truth of who and what you are, and fight for that truth. If we don't have truth, what do we have? |
